Pre VCE Physics

Year Long

This one-year course is designed to give students a taste of the topics covered in VCE Physics Units 1 through 4. It will provide you with the flexibility to specialise in individual areas of interest. This subject is highly recommended for anybody wanting to continue with VCE Physics.

The skills taught will be based around those prescribed by the current Physics Study Design. These include:

  • Experimental design

  • Conducting first-hand research

  • Using appropriate physics equipment to collect and analyse data

  • Applying newly-developed understanding to new contexts

  • Analysing issues and communicating information

Topics to be covered may include:

  • Motion of objects, including projectile motion

  • Nuclear and electrical energy

  • Waves (optics)

  • Astronomy

  • Electromagnetism

  • Modern physics: student lead

Assessment in this subject will be in the form of ongoing assessments tasks, which may occur in the form of tests, practical investigation reports, research projects or scientific posters. At the end of each semester, a compulsory one-hour exam will be conducted.

Students will learn OHS (Occupational Health and Safety) skills involved with working within the Physics area. Students will then carry out both individual and group projects to learn the practical skills needed to work at VCE level, as well as having the opportunity to follow areas of passion that arise within the subject.
