Food Technology
semester 1 & 2
Food technology is a fun, interesting, fast-paced, and rewarding subject. You will delve into the world of food in our daily lives and the important connection this it has with your health and well-being. The course is made up of mostly practical lessons covering a plethora of skills particularly to prepare students for life. There is also a community focus to enable students to work collaboratively and enjoy food together in an engaging environment. Students will cover many cooking methods such as steaming, baking, and grilling using seasonal ingredients sometimes from our very own permaculture garden. We pride ourselves on the fact that recipes are varied, with essential topics covered that are embedded into the learning. Students record their journey on the One note platform with photos and a sensory analysis. One in 3 classes will be exploring theory and expanding your food knowledge. An evaluation of the student’s outcomes is also recorded on Compass. The skills grid also covers other themes such as Chocolate, Sugar, and nutrition as well as a broad spectrum of the different cuisines in food. Once a term excursion is a highlight including visiting markets, restaurants, and hotels.
This subject suits the novice to the experienced as it is designed and developed for the skills of each student. Students can take it to develop their skills be it for personal growth and or as part of an academic pathway.
