Forensic Science is the application of scientific knowledge and methodology to criminal investigations. The evidence collected and analysed can be used in a court of law and could potentially lead to a person being found guilty of a crime.

Students will learn and practise the skills of a forensic scientist. These include:

  • Problem-solving;

  • Looking for clues, making inferences;

  • Blood splatter;

  • Gunshot residue;

  • Chromatography;

  • Fingerprinting;

  • DNA analysis and comparison;

  • Reliability of eyewitness accounts;

  • Mock crime scene;

  • Fabric analysis; and

  • Microscopy.

The course will consist of a number of practical tasks, research assignments, case studies and student presentations. Assessment will be based on these tasks.
