Forensic Science
Semester 2
Forensic Science is the application of scientific knowledge and methodology to criminal investigations. The evidence collected and analysed can be used in a court of law and could potentially lead to a person being found guilty of a crime.
Students will learn and practise the skills of a forensic scientist. These include:
Problem-solving;
Looking for clues, making inferences;
Blood splatter;
Gunshot residue;
Chromatography;
Fingerprinting;
DNA analysis and comparison;
Reliability of eyewitness accounts;
Mock crime scene;
Fabric analysis; and
Microscopy.
The course will consist of a number of practical tasks, research assignments, case studies and student presentations. Assessment will be based on these tasks.
